The Mercury Prize 2001

ever to win the Mercury Prize. She was unable to attend the ceremony, which took place in London
on September 11th, because she was stuck in Washington DC. All planes out of the USA that day
had been grounded, following the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon.
